AAF Hosts Forum on Urban School Design

September 10, 2008 - On Friday, August 22, the American Architectural Foundation hosted a Great Schools by Design Forum in Washington, DC, focused on Urban School Design. This forum was convened to elicit thoughts about the urban school as a distinctly different entity than the suburban school campuses that have been the dominant model. Participants shared their insights, perspective, passions and ideas, making the discussion rich with content and vision – a resource of great value. In addition to opinions on school design in an urban environment, AAF received thoughts on how it can shape its emerging role as a facilitator of knowledge on school design and how the Great Schools by Design program should evolve and grow.

Great Schools by Design (GSbD) is a national initiative of the American Architectural Foundation that seeks to improve the quality of America’s schools and the communities they serve by promoting collaboration, excellence and innovation in school design. Following the 2006 National Summit on School Design, AAF has conducted forums to gather concepts, current perspectives, and best practices on a number of topics recommended by the Summit participants. AAF appreciates the continuing support of Great Schools by Design’s presenting sponsor Target.
