MICD Hosts Alumni Technical Assistance in Moss Point. MS

March 2-4, 2009 – The Mayors’ Institute on City Design and Tulane Regional Urban Design Center (TRUDC) partnered to provide technical assistance to Mayor Xavier Bishop and the City of Moss Point, Mississippi, through MICD’s Alumni Technical Assistance program. Mayor Bishop attended a special MICD Gulf Coast Recovery Regional session in 2007. At that time, the Mayor presented initial post-Hurricane Katrina plans for a downtown renewal program that concentrated residential and commercial activity downtown and along the river’s edge. During the recent MICD Alumni Technical Assistance program, the Mayor worked with a team of design professionals from TRUDC and Mississippi State’s Gulf Coast Community Design Studio, as well as Jeff Soule from the American Planning Association’s DC office, to refine his vision for Moss Point’s downtown master plan. The outcomes of this collaborative event were captured in the Mississippi press on March 5th and March 18th.
