Barry Bergdoll, Chief Curator, Department of Architecture and Design, accepts the 2008 Keystone Award on Behalf of the Museum of Modern Art.

Keystone Award

The Keystone Award is an annual national award presented by the American Architectural Foundation honoring an individual or organization from outside the field of architecture for exemplary leadership that increases the value of architecture and design in our culture. The winner of the Keystone Award will reflect AAF’s vision of a society in which architecture enriches lives and transforms communities. Past awardees include the philanthropic Pritzker Family of Chicago, the Office of the Commissioner of the Public Building Service of the General Services Administration, the Honorable Richard M. Daley, Mayor of Chicago; artist and community activist Rick Lowe, Founding Director of Project Row Houses in Houston; and to the Honorable Joseph P. Riley, Jr., Mayor of Charleston, South Carolina.

The objective of the Keystone Award is to recognize and encourage individual leadership in architecture and design by all members of society, reflecting the increasingly important role that design plays in our lives and communities.
